We visit the Roman city of Italica, located in the Lower Guadalquivir, halfway between Híspalis (Seville) and Ilipa (Alcalá del Río), in present-day Santiponce, very close to the routes that connected with the mining area of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla and Huelva. It played an important strategic role both politically and militarily, as well as economically, during the Roman High Empire. It occupied an area of 52 hectares. Its origins date back to 206 BC when the general Publius Cornelius Scipio defeated the Carthaginians in the Battle of Ilipa (Second Punic War). It was the birthplace of emperors Trajan and Hadrian. You will be able to see the magnificent Roman amphitheater and stroll through the layout of what were its streets, as well as explore the houses and their splendid mosaics.
